AK Fazlul Huq

1873-1962

AK Fazlul Huq was a statesman and public leader. He held many high political posts including the Chief Minister of undivided Bengal (1937-1943)  and the Governor of East Pakistan (1956-58).

AK Fazlul didn’t limit himself to Bengal politics. He played an instrumental role in formulating the famous Lucknow Pact (1916). Mr. Huq was the president of the All India Muslim League from 1916 to 1921. Furthermore, he was the general secretary of the Indian National Congress from 1918 to 1919. At the all-India level, AK Fazlul Huq fought for the regional interest of Bengal. In the parley of Bengal politics, he fought for securing the rights of Muslims, particularly the Muslim peasants and  Muslim middle class. However, his fight for his co-religionists never descended into communalism.

AK Fazlul Huq combined in himself a true Muslim and a true Bangalee.
